3/12 Voodoo Cowboy on Friday Night!

I love free shows. I love free shows on Fridays. I love Mi Casa Tamales & Cantina on 6th. So should you. This Friday night, my good friends at Dart International are getting the whole festival week thing started early with a cool free show. Given that I am saving for next week, FREE is very much appreciated right now.

Dart International is bringing in a ton of international bands for SXSW next week, as they do every year. Friday night gives us an early taste of some of that international flavor the festival brings. A couple of Austin bands will join these international acts on stage Friday, including The Lemurs.

One thing I saw on this particular bill I found appealing was the diverse list of countries these bands are coming from. Chile is represented well this year at SXSW and one of the bands I've been wanting to check out is Casino. They are this sort of shoegazey, psychedelic indie band that sings in Spanish. I love the shoegazey, ambient sounding indie and these Casino guys seem to do it well. I'll find out how their live show is and then release my verdict on them. Check them out here on this video I found on Vimeo.

Casino - No from POTQ.cl on Vimeo.

Also on the bill that got me interested was this Chinese band called AV Okubo. One thing I don't do enough of is check out Asian bands. I love Peelander Z and Shonen Knife, whom I met at Fun Fun Fun Fest last fall. Still, I know there are tons of good bands out there I have yet to discover but cannot until they come to Austin and force me to pay attention. I will let you read about AV Okubo online in the link because I don't know much about them. All I know is when I heard their song "AV Terminator" I knew I wanted to check them out. They sing in English, so that should speak to their influences and help them appeal to American audiences. I'd be curious to hear what their songs would sound like in their native tongue though. Maybe I will, I don't won't know until tomorrow.

Check the poster above for the complete line up and more details. To learn more about all the cool happening with Dart International for this coming week, visit them online at http://dartmusicinternational.org/.
