Low hits the road for dates throughout the spring, most importantly for South by Southwest on Mar. 16 at St. David’s Sanctuary. Their set is at 11:00pm so you'd better have a wristband.

Low will be touring in release of their soon to be released album, C'mon. I'm looking forward to it as Low is one of my favorite "'90s bands" as I often tell my friends. C'mon will be available on April 12.

How dare he touch the legendary Jodeci classic. Some things are perfect the first time and best left alone. I am not an Omarion lover or hater, but I feel that Jodeci is on the list of untouchables. Kids these days...

Sponge returns to Austin

Long live the '90s!!!! Sponge is coming to Austin to play a show at Red Eyed Fly this Thursday.This is one of the most underrated bands of the early '90s. I discovered them in middle school on a random visit to CD Warehouse one day (remember those?) in the used section. I picked up the album Rotting Pinata for the title and popped it into the CD players they used to have out at these listening stations. I instantly fell in love with it. Later I heard them in the movie Chasing Amy and haven't heard much from them since. Still, Rotting Pinata is one my top one hundred lists for best albums of all time.

I didn't think I'd ever get to see Sponge in concert, but now I get to sort of see them. The lead singer, Vinnie Dombroski, is the only original member. Still, I'm so there. Still wondering who Sponge is or can't remember who they are? Listen to "Plowed" here from the YouTube clip. It's a classic:

Austin Ticket Give Away: Rasputina and Larkin Grimm at The Parish

Rasputina is a popular (amongst certain sects anyway) cello driven trio have been around since the early nineties. I remember them getting early buzz from two things specifically 1) Lead singer and founder Melora Creagor played cello with Nirvana and 2) Marilyn Manson once mentioned in an interview that Rasputina was one of his favorite bands. I wish I could remember the magazine but it has been so long at this point that I'm surprised I even remember that. They truly are unique, regardless of who said what or how you are familiar with them. They always seem to come through Austin when tour, the last time having performed at The Parish. With the incredible sound and lighting at The Parish, it is the perfect venue for Rasputina.

Rasputina return to The Parish this Friday, August 6th. Their touring mate this time around is singer-songwriter, Larkin Grimm. It is on this tour that you will see a male cellist for the first time in Rasputina, Daniel DeJesus. Looking forward to new Brandon Boyd solo stuff

Incubus frontman, Brandon Boyd, will be releasing a new solo record titled "The Wild Trapeze" in July. I guess this will have to do, but I'd much prefer a new Incubus record. I like the song posted in the video above though, so it will be interesting to hear to entire album.

New Interview with Violent Soho on Red River Noise

I interviewed Aussie grunge rockers, Violent Soho, recently for Red River Noise. These dudes remind of me bands like The Pixies, Nirvana and even early Weezer a little bit. I love this band. It is nice to see young twenty somethings do something other than samesy indie rock. These dudes were elementary when the music that influenced them was big. Hopefully this trend continues to keep bands doing something different. It will be interesting to see what kind of buzz they get after this summer's Lollapalooza Fest in Chicago. New Sarah McLachlan video: "One Dream"

Oh-Em-Geee! I love-love-love Sarah McLachlan. She flipped my world upside down in the '90s. Her Surfacing album was the one non-hard rock CD in my five disc CD player I had at the time. Remember those? I mean there she was right there next to Rage Against The Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, Deftones and Metallica. I went to Lilith Fair twice at the old South Park Meadows before it was a shopping center. You could even go so far as to say I was (and still am to a degree) smitten.

That being said, you now understand my excitement when I got word of her new music video for "One Dream". Sure, it is a theme song for the winter Olympics, but it is still my dear Sarah McLachlan. The Olympics could have done a lot worse or something waaayyyy cheesy. Kudos to them for this one.

Finally, to my dear Sarah if you're reading this...I love you Sarah! Come to Austin and bring Lilith Fair back! I'll be there if you do.

Transmission Entertainment is seeking interns for 2010

Want to be involved with Transmission? They are the ones who put on Fun Fun Fun Fest as well as book shows at Mohawk, Red7 and more. They're offering internships, or, for those not eligible for an internship or looking for less of a time commitment, to join their street team. Here's the info they provided me for both:

Transmission Entertainment seeks Spring 2010 interns to help with day-to-day tasks of running a creative events agency. Transmission Entertainment is an independent Austin organization that is known for hosting and producing events like Fun Fun Fun Fest, Mess with Texas, and the Jelly NYC pool parties in Brooklyn and San Francisco. TE is also known for booking shows at The Mohawk, St. Davids Episcopal, Red 7, Club de Ville, Lamberts, The Compound, Waterloo Park, Fiesta Gardens, and many garages and backyards around Austin. Transmission is looking for a few highly capable interns to help in this effort for 10-15 hours a week.  Tasks include (but are not limited to): assisting the Transmission staff with events, relevant research for events, assisting with managing the street team, designing fliers and posters, occasionally assisting on site at events, helping us update our social networking sites, assisting with sponsorship and sales, responsibilities associated with SXSW, receiving (and reading in full) Graham William’s “People of Wal-Mart” emails, and having a lot of fun.  We want this to be educational and productive for interns, and you can expect lots of learning, hands-on experience, access to food, beverages and rock n roll, as well as many other magical things.

Details:

-This internship starts in January 2010, ends in May 2010, and is unpaid.

-College students preferred but not required.

-School credit preferred but not required.

-Must be great with online stuff and social networking sites.

-Make sure to let us know of any experience with events/booking/music industry.

-Design knowledge is a plus but not required; however we would love to take on a design and graphics intern if possible, so if that sounds like something you could do, please let us know in your cover letter.

-Let us know if you have an SLR camera/any show photography experience (we're always looking for in house people to document events and shows).

-Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Google Docs.

-Must live in Austin and have transportation to our offices (even if that’s just a great proficiency at the Austin bus systems—you just need to be able to get to the office)

Reel Big Fish Live In Concert DVD

On their new live DVD, Reel Big Fish Live In Concert!, Reel Big Fish rock fans like it is the heyday of the ‘90s all over again. Reel Big Fish Live In Concert! is a 20 song concert DVD recorded in front of their hometown fans in Anaheim. In what was a sold out crowd, the guys from Reel Big Fish prove they still have what it takes to give an amazing live show. Watching it took me back to my early Warped Tour days in South Park Meadows before it was a shopping center. Yeah that dates me a little, but so does loving a Reel Big Fish DVD.
