Peter Gabriel covers 'In The Neighborhood' by Tom Waits

The legendary Peter Gabriel is featured on a live video put out by The Voice Project in which Gabriel covers one of my favorite Tom Waits songs, "In The Neighborhood". The Voice Project is an organization that raises awareness and support for war torn Central East African regions. They have a whole series of videos I have been following, but this one is the most beautiful cover thus far. After surfing around a little more, I learned that Peter Gabriel's daughter, Ana Gabriel, is one of the founders of The Voice Project. Anyways, be sure to check out their site and enjoy the video.

More Gaga Covers: "Speechless" by The Material

If you have been on YouTube recently, you can't not come across another Lady Gaga cover song.Most are terrible amatuer attempts at YouTube fame, but occasionally some are pretty good. The last one I posted was from indie singer-songwriter, Lissie. She had a band and guitar for that one.

This one is just a voice and a piano. It comes from one of my favorite pop-punk bands, The Material. Some may have caught them on MTV a few years ago or maybe even played their songs on the video game Rock Band. I saw them at The Red Eyed Fly in 2008 and have followed them ever since. The video above is lead singer Colleen and Jon (who normally plays guitar) on piano. It just goes to show, everyone goes Gaga for Lady Gaga.

The Oakridge Boys Cover of "Seven Nation Army"

I found this video today when I was searching around for some Jack White stuff on YouTube. It is the country music legends, The Oak Ridge Boys, covering "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes. At first I was like, " You gotta be kidding me". After listening to it, I can't help but dig it a little. It is kind of funny actually. Give it a listen:

Album Review: Soy Sauce by Mexican Institute of Sound

Mexican Institute of Sound (MIS) is musical master mind, Camilo Lara. MIS is a large part of the strong electronic dance music coming out of Mexico and all of Latin America. Having always the recipient of great international critical acclaim, MIS is still relatively unknown to the casual music listener here in the States. Only hipsters and Latin scenesters have MIS albums it seems. Fans of Moby, The Chemical Brothers, Nortec Collective or even The Verve (yes, The Verve) should have MIS’s new album, Soy Sauce, in their collection.
