Social Distortion "Machine Gun Blues" trailer

This is the trailer for the new short film from Social Distortion for "Machine Gun Blues." I'm told to go to http://www.voxbloc.com/share/machine-gun-blues to demand the movie premiere and free show in Austin. The city with the most votes will win a free Social D performance and premiere of the short film "Machine Gun Blues." Whatever I have to do to get Social D back in Austin, I'll do. Mike Ness is my generation's Johnny Cash with ink.

The Sword reschedule U.S. tour dates

I'm excited and super disappointed at the same time right now.When Austin based metal group, The Sword, announced that original drummer Trevitt Wingo was leaving the band, it was heart breaking. After catching them at ACL, their final show with Wingo, they announced he was leaving. Shortly thereafter, they found a replacement drummer.

Kevin Fender, best known for his work with the Texas hardcore outfit Employer, Employee, will be their drummer now. While I'm glad they will continue on, their new tour dates do not include any Austin gigs. Oh well, they will be back at some point. Here are the new U.S. tour dates:

New Gaslight Anthem info: "American Slang"

Here is the new cover art for the upcoming Gaslight Anthem album, American Slang, due out on June 15th. I know that's a ways away, but anything I can get from Gaslight Anthem is gold. I absolutely love this band. They posted a the new title track on their MySpace page.

WOXY shuts down

Big news this morning folks. WOXY,the popular internet indie radio station that just moved to Austin from Cincinnati, shut down today. I was caught by total surprise. I was just in the M.E. TV building the other day it seems and there they were. Their owners, Future Sounds, have pulled the plug.

I first saw a post about it on Twitter that linked me to this post on Paige Maguire's blog, Flux-Rad. Then a friend of mine emailed me this post from the Austinist. It is true. WOXY was a good thing to happen to Austin. That's the economic reality for music media unfortunately. Music media is going the way of being in a band. It is something you will do after your soul sucking 9 to 5 gig until you "make it big".

New Spoon Album in January

Austin's own indie rock Gods, Spoon, will be releasing a new album on January 26th entitled Transference. The album will be put out by Merge Records and will consist of eleven new songs. Finally! I love me some Spoon but their last EP, Got Nuffin, didn't give me my much needed Spoon fix that I though it would. It was okay, but I expect better from Spoon. Here's a video teaser from Spoon's YouTube Channel. I like what I hear...
