Here's Lincoln Park performing "Iredescent" at Red Square Park in Moscow. The performance was for the world premiere of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.
Long live the '90s!!!! Sponge is coming to Austin to play a show at Red Eyed Fly this Thursday. This is one of the most underrated bands of the early '90s. I discovered them in middle school on a random visit to CD Warehouse one day (remember those?) in the used section. I picked up the album Rotting Pinata for the title and popped it into the CD players they used to have out at these listening stations. I instantly fell in love with it. Later I heard them in the movie Chasing Amy and haven't heard much from them since. Still, Rotting Pinata is one my top one hundred lists for best albums of all time.
I didn't think I'd ever get to see Sponge in concert, but now I get to sort of see them. The lead singer, Vinnie Dombroski, is the only original member. Still, I'm so there. Still wondering who Sponge is or can't remember who they are? Listen to "Plowed" here from the YouTube clip. It's a classic:
Advance tickets are available for the show on Frontgate Tickets here.
Stone Sour is back with a new album and there is a listening party for it here in Austin this Tuesday at Red Eyed Fly. Stone Sour is fronted by Corey Taylor, who also is a vocalist for Slipknot. They are harder radio rock with some agnst and heavy riffs mixed in. If you haven't heard them, and like hard rock that isn't too rip your face off, give Stone Sour a listen. Here is their new video for their single"Say You'll Haunt Me" off of their new album Album Secrecy:
Something even better for those of you who attend the listening party....
The Red Eyed Fly agreed to give away a pair of tickets to see popular '90s alt-rockers, Sponge, who are playing this Thursday. I'm hoping to check it out.
Korn is releasing a new album tomorrow, titled Remember Who We Are.There is a listening party happening at Encore Records starting at 8:00pm and one lucky winner will come home with a signed Korn lithograph. Remember Who We Are is Korn's ninth album and their first on Roadrunner Records. As a long time fan, I am looking forward to it but I already know it will never be what early Korn was for me. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, who knows? See the poster above for details.
Incubus frontman, Brandon Boyd, will be releasing a new solo record titled "The Wild Trapeze" in July. I guess this will have to do, but I'd much prefer a new Incubus record. I like the song posted in the video above though, so it will be interesting to hear to entire album.
I interviewed Aussie grunge rockers, Violent Soho, recently for Red River Noise. These dudes remind of me bands like The Pixies, Nirvana and even early Weezer a little bit. I love this band. It is nice to see young twenty somethings do something other than samesy indie rock. These dudes were elementary when the music that influenced them was big. Hopefully this trend continues to keep bands doing something different. It will be interesting to see what kind of buzz they get after this summer's Lollapalooza Fest in Chicago. My good friends at Blastro are celebrating their tenth anniversary this Saturday at The Belmont. Blastro is an Austin based video production company that is responsible for all the great Ya'll Wire country vids and Roxwell videos you've seen online. They work with Austin Vida for big Latin events and shows, along with some 101X radio personalities for Roxwell. Their imprint on not only the Austin Music scene but the music scene everywhere has been made. Even before I got to know the crew over there, I was a fan of their website for their great live concert videos. If you haven't seen their videos yet, you're missing out on some great stuff.
Performing at The Belmont for Blastro will be Austin's own Alpha Rev. Their a good band for this event given the venue and their mass appeal to general audiences. In fact, the only live anything I've seen from Alpha Rev was on Rowell, which remember is the same people as Blastro. Rather than describe them this time, get the full Alpha Rev experience in this video Blastro filmed at La Zona Rosa.
Los Hollywood is a three piece rock band from San Diego whose front woman, Heidy, is constantly compared to or referred to as the Latina Gwen Stefani. There is no doubt (pun intended) that the comparisons will ever stop. Click here to read the full review on Austin Vida
