New interview with The Frontier Brothers on Red River Noise

In June I got the chance to see the Austin based indie band, The Frontier Brothers, twice at Mohawk. They were part of the "Mind of Adi" residency that month. Red River Noise was a proud promotional supporter of the series. These guys were so good live and a good time was had by all. I got a chance to interview frontman Marshall Newman for Red River Noise which features photos by my friend and photographer, Chantel Clopine. Read the interview on Red River Noise here:

Photos: Record shopping with Los Amigos Invisibles at End of an Ear

One of my favorite things to do other than see live music is buy vinyl records. One of my favorite groups of all time is Los Amigos Invisibles. What do you do when they come to town besides catch their amazing live show? You take them record shopping at an indie record store. While you are at it, you shoot a video interview with Blastro for Austin Vida. Here you see the photos by my good friend and Austin Vida photo editor, Mari Hernandez, from that day at End of an Ear. You can watch this actual video interview with live footage of the concert here:

New Interview with Hacienda on Austin Vida

Hacienda live at Pachanga Fest (photo by Mari Hernandez)

My boys from Boerne, Texas (right outside of San Antonio) came through Austin to perform at this year's Pachanga Festival on May 22nd. I sat down with them again to talk about their new life, new album and San Antonio. Their new album, Big Red & Barbacoa, is the bees knees. It is actually stamped on red vinyl for those of you who are also vinyl junkies. Check out the interview on Austin Vida here:

New Interview with Violent Soho on Red River Noise

I interviewed Aussie grunge rockers, Violent Soho, recently for Red River Noise. These dudes remind of me bands like The Pixies, Nirvana and even early Weezer a little bit. I love this band. It is nice to see young twenty somethings do something other than samesy indie rock. These dudes were elementary when the music that influenced them was big. Hopefully this trend continues to keep bands doing something different. It will be interesting to see what kind of buzz they get after this summer's Lollapalooza Fest in Chicago. New Interview with Jeffree Star on Red River Noise

Me with Jeffree Star at Emo's

I saw Jeffree Star for the first time at Warped Tour in San Antonio. Kids were going ape shit over this dude. He reminds me of a drag, pink haired, electro version of Marilyn Manson. He's got a lot of crazy stories and is pretty hilarious. He told me about taking a taser to a guy, firing band members and all sorts of stuff. It was an interesting experience to say the least. New interview with Sen Dog of Cypress Hill

I'm still waiting for time travel to be invented so I can show my junior high self this picture and interview I did with Sen Dog from Cypress Hill. I sat down with Sen Dog when they came through Austin and we had a good talk about everything from his personal health, his yard sale and their new album, Rise Up. Not much more can be said that hasn't been said about Cypress Hill already, but this was definitely one of my favorite interviews I've ever done. He was open, honest and even funny at times. Check out the interview online at Austin Vida here:

New interview with Robert Livar from Bombasta on Austin Vida

Robert Livar of Bombasta (photo by Isabel Salazar)

One of my favorite San Antonio bands, Bombasta, is playing Pachanga Fest on Saturday. They aren't going to be one of the bigger bands being talked about, but they totally should be. They are puro San Antonio, and in my interview with lead singer Robert Livar, you'll see what I mean. Their sound is a fusion of Tejano, R&B, soul and cumbia. Check out my interview with Livar on Austin Vida to learn more. It's more of a preview for fans and readers who already know about them. I'll get more in depth with them later.

New video and interview from The Minutes

So during SXSW, I try and check out as many international bands as I can. I don't get caught in the all the hype of the free booze hipster parties. I look for music or bands that I will only get a chance to see at SXSW. Everyone else as far as popular bands always make their way back around to Austin at some point so I don't sweat missing them at South By.

Well this past March during SXSW, my favorite new discovery, meaning a band even I hadn't yet learned about or heard of, was The Minutes from Dublin, Ireland. They are three piece Irish rock machine that resurrects the spirit of the 60s when rock and roll was raw. They took me by complete surprise by how good they were live and I can't wait for them to stamp a vinyl for me to add o my High Fidelity collection. Check out The Minutes here. Turn it up and listen loud!

New video and interview with Local Natives

One of the few "blogger" bands I really dig is a Los Angeles based indie rockers, Local Natives. They debuted their new video for their single "World News" today on Pitchfork TV. It's beachy. Also, a couple of my Red River Noise colleagues, Brett Thorne and Sara Strick, caught Local Natives when they were here in Austin last month. Brett interviewed one of the guys from the band while Sara captured some cool photos. Take a look at the links below when you get a chance:

New interview with Jason DeVore of Authority Zero on Red River Noise

I recently sat down with Jason Devore, lead singer of punk rock out Authority Zero. He's a great interview and totally approachable. After over ten years of doing Authority Zero, it was nice to see he hasn't lost his passion despite all the changes with the band and record industry over the years. We talked a little about that and the new upcoming album from Authority Zero coming out in June called Stories Of Survival. Read the full interview here:

New interview with Tony Sly on Red River Noise

No Use For A Name is a punk band I've been a fan of since I was in high school, waayyyy back in the '90s. I saw them on Warped Tour and actually got to meet Tony Sly this year. In February, he came out with his first solo acoustic album called 12 Song Program. We talked about that amongst many other things. Check out the interview on our new website, Red River Noise here:

The White White Lights: New interview and video clip

This video talks about this week's featured Echotone B-Side release. In the video is The Onion Editor and the head if Indierect, Daniel Perlaky. The video features this year's buzz band, a band I'm a big fan of, The White White Lights. I liked it because it has Perlaky shamelessly plugging his band and talking about the pros and cons of creating music and selling it. The video also features a live clip of "In The Pines" from The White White Lights. If you haven't heard of them or want to know more, I did an in depth interview with them for Red River Noise recently. Read it here: http://www.redrivernoise.com/2010/04/made-in-austin-q-white-white-lights.html.

New Interview: Ana Tijoux

Chilean MC and Nacional Records artist, Ana Tijoux, is the best thing to happen to hip hop since Cypress Hill. On the eve of her U. S. debut album dropping on Tuesday, 1977, I sat down with Tijoux to talk about who she is. Of course we chatted about the album, but I wanted to know why a Chilean MC gets it right when so many American rappers don't, still thinking auto tune effects and Lil Wayne remixes make good songs or albums. Tijoux is classic, 90s style, in every since of the word. Learn more about the M.C. who may have made my favorite hip hop album this year. I can tell you it will be between her 1977 album and Cypress Hill's new one, Rise Up.

New Interview with Carrie Rodriguez

I got to finally meet and talk to Carrie Rodriguez last week. I've waited a long time. She lives in Austin now and will be playing with full band this weekend at the soon to be defunct Cactus Cafe. She'll be performing on both Friday and Saturday, April 16th-17th. She is one of the few Americana type artists I actually listen to, other than maybe Band of Heathens. We talked about here move back to Austin, her new covers album, touring with Alejandro Escovedo and growing up in Austin.

New interview with Nancy Silva Project

I just published my new interview with San Antonio band, Nancy Silva Project. They just got signed recently and are one of my "bands to watch for" for 2010. They do make it to Austin on occasion and are worth checking out live. They look very dark and goth, maybe even metal-ish, but they are melodic modern rock that's ready for mainstream rock radio. The Anvil Interview

Yes, the above photo is real. I have been told it looks fake, but I assure you it's real. It was taken by Ajay Miranda in the green room at Emo's. I got to interview the guys from Anvil when they came through Austin recently. I saw the movie, own This Is Thirteen on vinyl now and I am still looking for the Japanese Anvil t-shirt Lips was wearing the day of the show/interview. I even captured a video of Lips rocking the guitar with a dildo and put it on YouTube. It was quite the experience to say the least. This was definitely one of the best times I've had during this ride.

New interview with Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada

Me with Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada

In lieu of one of my favorite new bands coming to town this month, I just published my interview with Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada on Double Stereo. Shortly after my interview, Alternative Press announced them as their "Band of the Year" for 2009. Check out the sweet cover.

The guys from The Devil Wears Prada will be back in Austin again to play at Stubb's with Kill Switch Engage on February 24th. You can purchase advance tickets HERE. Their live show is sick I tell you! Sick!

Read my interview to learn about what's coming up and to hear why Mike thinks his early records are "dumbed down". I also posted some great live video from Roxwell in the interview. Check it out:

New interview with In Situ Sound

In Situ Sound live at Beerland during Free Week

So my favorite Free Week discovery this year was In Situ Sound. This is the kind of indie I like and I couldn't be happier that these dudes are here in Austin now. I'm hoping people get as excited about them as I have. Kudos to my girl Chantel Clopine for not only taking amazing photos, but also introducing me to the band.

Dirty Laundry Interview with Jemina Pearl

Dirty Laundry Presents: Jemina Pearl from Dirty Laundry on Vimeo.

I love Dirty Laundry and have a mad crush on Jemina Pearl. I hated the fact I had to miss her show at Emo's. Next time my dear Jemina...next time. I want a photo and an interview. If her "people" are reading this, let's make it happen next time.

Interview: Lights Resolve

Me with Lights Resolve

I recently uploaded an interview I did for Double Stereo with a cool young band from New York called Lights Resolve. Maybe you caught them with The Used or saw them last year during SXSW. These dudes are good. I think they are going to step up their game this year and put out a hot record. Check out the interview:
