Waiting for the new Chiodos album

I belong to the school of thought that there is no Chiodos without Craig Owens. When he left the band and did his solo thing, I was really disappointed. Fast forward to this coming October, Chiodos carries on with new lead singer Brandon Bolmer, formerly of Yesterdays Rising. I'm going to have an open mind and pretend that this is band not named Chiodos when I listen to it. Who knows, it may be good. I'll let you know.

New video from Therefore I Am: 'I Am Only An Island'

I met this band at Warped Tour this summer and reviewed the album in spring. I absolutely love Therefore I Am and can't say enough good about them. I am bummed their show Austin show was canceled, but maybe SXSW or spring tour will bring them back around. In the meantime, check out their new video for "I Am Only An Island". If you like it, it is off their album The Sound of Human Lives. Honestly, it is not even the best song on the album.

Friay Night Show Pick: Dear and the Headlights at Emo's

Dear and the Headlights

Tonight at Emo's (inside) marks the return of one my favorite bands I discovered this year, Dear and the Headlights. Coming off this summer's Warped Tour, believe it or not, the guys are touring to support their album Drunk Like Bible Times. These guys are constantly touring and are certainly in love with Austin. They've been here at least twice that I know of this year already. I also caught them at Warped Tour this summer in San Antonio. They were the lone indie(ish) band there but still had a great reception amongst the punk kids.

Dear and the Headlights are indie rockers with a hint garage rock and pop. Some of their songs sound very '60s, some sound very Pitchforky. That's referring to the online indie site, not a comment on musical pitch. My favorite song that I'd suggest to you is "Talk About" off of Drunk Like Bible Times. It's also cool that the lead singer is named "Ian". Okay, maybe that's not that cool but I like that name for some reason.

I'd usually go into more detail on my blog here, but I already have a recent interview with the guys I did before Warped Tour. If you like what you hear on this YouTube clip, check out the links below to learn more.

Get to Emo's tonight at 8:00pm to catch Kinch and Rajiv Patel, both Arizona based artists. Tickets are $10 and the show is all ages. My guess is that this is your last chance this year to catch Dear and the Headlights in Austin. Take advantage. Trust me. You'll dig 'em.

Album Review and Upcoming Show for Closure in Moscow

Closure For Moscow is an Australian progressive rock band that captures the ear’s attention. Their guitar riffs are all over the place, but seem to be well placed in each song. The drums come at you at the speed of a metal band drummer. The vocals are crisp sounding and clearly understandable. Their latest album, First Temple, was released on Equal Vision records in May. This is the band’s first major label backed attempt at national success stateside. Fans of Circa Survive and The Mars Volta will want to give First Temple a listen.

For those interested in checking out Closure For Moscow live here in Austin, join me at Emo's this Friday to see them with Emery. It should be a great show. Here's the flyer and a link for tickets right below it.

Therefore I Am Warped: Interview with Alex Correia

One of my favorite new bands, and not just on the Warped Tour, is Boston’s own Therefore I Am. They are a post hardcore band who is going to make some noise and take the scene by storm anywhere they play. There is just something about Boston that produces great hardcore acts. The Dropkick Murphys have always been my favorite band from Boston, but Therefore I Am get just as many plays in my iPod these days. I sat down with Alex Correia (vocals) to talk about their home town, the dark anger of their new album and of course Warped Tour.

Album Review: The Sound of Human Lives by Therefore I Am

A great album from a band on this year’s Warped Tour is The Sound of Human Lives by Therefore I Am. Somewhat screamo, somewhat hardcore and little indie is the best way to describe Therefore I Am. Whatever the style or genre they fall under, it’s all aggressive and well put together. The fans at Warped Tour are going to love them. The album has already passed my “car test”.

Interview with Dear and the Headlights

I have another installment of my Warped Tour series leading up to our Double Stereo coverage for you. I sat down with a great featured band on this year’s Warped Tour, Dear and the Headlights. An energetic young indie band from Arizona, they came through Austin recently to talk about everything from performing at music festivals to winning over Paramore fans. When you need a break from all the awesome pop punk and screamo, check out Dear and the Headlights.
